“Dunkirk Harbor, View #3” captures the city’s beautiful harbor on the shore of Lake Erie. The city’s proximity to the lake encouraged its growth as an industrial center from 1890 to 1970. Since the 1970s, however, Dunkirk has struggled to redefine itself after industrial centers moved away and created the “rust belt” along the great lakes. This image focuses on what the artist sees as the future of this community—the beauty and recreational opportunities provided by the harbor.
